Who Are You: The Life of Pete Townshend - Mark Wilkerson

2008
Omnibus Press

Since first reading Amazing Journey, I didn't think it would be topped as a biography of Pete Townshend.

It has by the revised version, published now by a mainstream publishing house (Amazing Journey was self published), with access to a sympathetic and knowledgeable editor and access to the members of Townshend's inner circle, and to Pete himself. The cover photo is by Ross Halfin, reknowned for his stance that "The Who are the greatest band ever" and for not being associated with cash ins. The foreword is by Eddie Vedder another great supporter of Townshend and The Who.

Whereas Amazing Journey relied on press cuttings and second hand interviews and qutes to tell the story, Who Are You is able to include first hand recollections and versions.

For what is probably the definitive story of Townshend, just buy this book, the only thing that will come close will be when the autobiography is released.
